Discipline Failed

So I’m not even a week into the challenge and I came down crashing down with all my habits that I’ve been building, I’m tired. I did nothing but spend money I don’t have and binged watch Netflix, Im tired.

I barely left my room so I won’t see any of my family, I’m only seeing my girlfriend who I know is deep down tired of me.

I’m saying I’m depressed but I had the guts to take a picture of me to show the world I’m still artistic even though I’m not.

I’m writing on this blog which is barely read by anyone since I don’t want this to be seen by any of my friends and I think I’m falling into depression although I don’t want to talk about it with anyone because I’m afraid I’ll just be called a fraud. I’m too much of a “blessed” guy to be depressed because I should be thankful of what I have although I don’t have a job, I’m seriously injured making me immobile for the next few months, I’m trying to start a business I can’t manage and giving me anxiety because I can’t get a steady income stream. I quit on college even with only 6 units left to prove a point to my parents but I don’t have anything to prove.

I’m tired.
help.

Discipline Challenge

Hey reader, I know I designed this blog as if it was just about travel and photography, you know the good things in life (well at least for me) but as I stated in my first blog post, I wanted this to be a collection of my personal stories on how I describe my life.

but here’s a quick background first to set-up the this story.

Last night, I decided to watch interviews on the upcoming film Once upon a time in Hollywood the 9th and probably the last film of Quentin Tarantino, I’m an absolute fan of Quentin and the cast, most especially Brad Pitt. So to keep the hype real I decided to watch a Brad Pitt film on Netflix and clicked on War Machine (2017) where he portrayed an army general during the US invasion of Afghanistan. The film was 7/10 but I loved the story of his character’s discipline of waking up in the morning and running 7miles. I thought to myself I should have the discipline he has and guess what? Instead of sleeping I looked for another war film to get me more excited of waking up early the next day and starting my training then I ended up watching Black Hawk Down (2001), although there was not much “Military Discipline” found in the movie, it did make me realize that because of the training of the troops they were able to survive war in the most unforgivable circumstances, well most of them. You probably think I’m going to sleep now? Nope! It’s 12mn on my clock and I told myself one last military film and my goodness I clicked on the right one which was Full Metal Jacket (1987) which molded the image of a the Hollywood drill instructor and showed what the discipline recruits go through to earn the title of a U.S. Marine.

So, I finished my binge watch at around 2a.m. last night (or this morning) and remembered a guest of my favorite vlogger Casey Neistat and my favorite podcast host Joe Rogan on their respective platforms. this man preaches about waking up 4:30am everyday, and simply “owning it!” and you may probably know who he is, It’s Jocko Willink!
Two and a half hours of bed time then I wake up to start lifting weights in the morning? what am I crazy?

It’s time!

4:37am

Hey guys! yup, I barely fell asleep but I’m writing this blog now just to prove to you and especially to myself that I want to embrace a new found discipline in life. I got up from bed five minutes before 4a.m., made some coffee and already planned my day, I know I should be lifting weights already but I wanted to share this crazy experiment I will be doing. As I said I am embracing discipline and what better way to do it but to challenge myself soon as possible!

adj, this is a bad idea….

So here’s the challenge:
Starting today I will be waking up between 4a.m and proceed with my workout by 4:30a.m, go on with my day, then light’s off by 9p.m. everynight, only light I can use is the light by my nightstand to read books(No more screens except for my e-reader), I’d only exempt myself from staying up late if I had any important events that night or emergencies but the catch is I still have to wake up at 4:00a.m.

I’d do this for the next 7 days and tell you how I would feel doing it.

Check-and-Balances:
If you want to help me out and also see if I’m up for the challenge you can follow me on twitter and I should be tweeting that I’m up between 4-5 in the morning (I can’t promise exact 4am yet since I’m a heavy sleeper) and If I don’t, call bullshit on me!

Take-away:
I always want to instill the habit of discipline in my life and I find it really hard but hey I already have this habit of working out everyday so to I guess the best way to start putting in discipline in myself is by starting with my sleep. I’ll work from there and will move on to more habits!

Hope you join this challenge too, reader!

The Bucket List: Nepal I

Meditating Sadhu at Pashuputinath Temple, Nepal 2018

This is hands down my favorite photo that I took.
I’ve been playing with a DSLR close to a decade now and it’s weird that I took this with only an iPhone. As a photographer it’s not about the gear but it’s about the subject, the moment, the scene you want to capture.

There’s a backstory on why I love this photograph, and it started when I was kid watching too much National Geographic, and Discovery Channel. You see Tibet and Nepal has always captivated me, there was something mystical about the Buddhist and Hindu beliefs. It was unorthodox for a kid who grew up in a very traditional catholic household and I always told myself I wanted to see what these religions have to offer but there was no way in hell I was able to go to Nepal anytime soon until an opportunity showed itself.

I flew to Bangladesh in 2018 to take care of some business and I only expected to stay there, so I packed light leaving my camera and most of my hiking gear at home. After a month of just going and working around Dhaka my employer wanted to reward me for my efforts since I never really had weekends or some time-off because my living quarters was also in the office.
So they gave me a budget to fly anywhere nearby and about 10 days of vacation leave. I checked google maps and I realized that Nepal was just north of Bangladesh. Found a budget airline to take me there with only a small backpack… (Story to be continued)

A Fresh Start

I’ve always wanted to have a blog but whenever I start I end up trying to make a business out of it and eventually failing to update it the next day. Now, I’ve realized why I wanted to start one. It’s because I want an outlet of my life where I can be myself. You see, I’m an amateur photographer and writer, I loved both of these disciplines and they’re both my creative outlets but being business minded I always want to create money out of the things I do and that bothers me because it stresses me out. Now, It’s time for a fresh start. I just want an outlet for me to put out my favorite photographs that I took and share stories that I’ve experienced.

I hope you enjoy reading my blog as I head on with a fresh start by describing my life.
